### MHI Delivers Advanced Propulsion for Offshore Wind Training

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has received an order from Okishin Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Sasebo, Nagasaki) for a water jet propulsion unit to be installed on a 19-ton Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV). This vessel is owned by the Nagasaki Maritime Human Resources Development Association, a non-profit organization.

The vessel, built with support from The Nippon Foundation, will be utilized for practical training—including CTV maneuvering, personnel transfer, and underwater surveys—at Japan’s first dedicated offshore training tower located off the coast of Takashima, Nagasaki.

#### Key Technical Features of the New Water Jet System

- **High-Performance Hydro Model:** Features a proprietary axial-flow hydro model that enhances propulsion efficiency and the 'pushing force' against wind turbine foundations. - **Improved Maneuverability:** Enhanced steering systems for better control in challenging tidal and wave conditions. - **Environmental Consideration:** Uses water-lubricated bearings (no oil) and a structure that keeps hydraulic piping inside the hull to prevent environmental contamination.

#### Advanced Maneuvering Support Functions

- **Auto-Following Function:** Automatically tracks moving targets on or under the water. It uses real-time data from underwater inspection equipment and sensors to follow at a preset distance. - **Dynamic Positioning (Station Keeping):** Uses GPS and other data to automatically maintain the vessel's position and heading, essential for long waits near turbines or during underwater survey equipment deployment.

MHI, as a leading domestic manufacturer of water jet propulsion units, remains committed to providing innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the offshore wind and maritime industries.
