As a recipient of the Japan SDGs Award and involved in the operation of the award secretariat, our company has practiced human capital management and environmentally conscious business models. This report "visualizes" these initiatives and organizes the reality of our management, which aims to balance both social and economic aspects.
Currently, we are receiving reviews from experts, including financial institutions and academics, and plan to issue a "revised edition" that clarifies our top priority issues based on their feedback.
■ Background and Highlights of SDGs Report Publication
Our company has set a long-term vision looking ahead to 2050 and is promoting management that envisions a world beyond SDGs, under the mission of "solving social issues and creating value through business." This report primarily summarizes the following practices:
1. Initiatives for Society (S) based on Human Capital and Health Management: Our company positions investment in human capital not merely as a cost, but as a management foundation that supports corporate value, through building diverse networks with partner companies and calculating our unique "sociality score."
2. Business Model Connecting Social Issue Resolution to Economic Viability: We adapt our business model to address regional social issues such as disaster prevention and resilience, extending the lifespan of building stock, and regional employment and human resource development, thereby building a model that balances the pursuit of social value with economic value. As an approach to the Environment (E), examples such as the SDGs and ethical shop "SUNDAYs GOOD" are also introduced.
3. Journey of Governance (G) Overcoming Organizational Collapse: Based on our track record of rebuilding the company from a past organizational culture crisis, we describe our philosophy for building a highly transparent management system and the process of creating a resilient organization.
■ Future Outlook: Evolution to a "Revised Edition" Based on Expert Review
In formulating this report, we received evaluations and valuable suggestions for future growth from experts including Mr. Yoshio Mamiya, former Cabinet Secretariat Advisor, Mr. Yuji Furui, Specially Appointed Professor at the University of Tokyo's Institute for Future Initiatives, Mr. Shun Kawakubo, Associate Professor at Keio University's Faculty of Science and Technology, as well as financial institutions and academics. Moving forward, we plan to create and publish a "revised edition" that reinforces the following points based on their insights:
[Top Priority Issue] Identification and Clarification of Materiality (Key Issues): Beyond merely reporting on activities, we will clearly indicate what issues our company "most emphasizes," how they are solved through which business models, and how they possess profitability and sustainability, thereby clarifying priorities and narratives.
Expansion of Various KPIs and Visualization of PDCA Process: We will expand quantitative data related to Environment (E) and Governance (G), and clarify the process of verifying the effectiveness of human capital investment, showing what outcomes it generates.
Consideration of New Environmental Perspectives for the Future: After establishing the foundational materiality, we will progressively consider medium- to long-term environmental issues as part of our future vision.
Additionally, we will also work to support local SMEs that are promoting similar initiatives in creating ESG reports. Please feel free to contact us for consultation.
Sansho Kogyo will continue to engage in dialogue with stakeholders and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through business.
