The General Incorporated Foundation Ruby Foundation (Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Yutaka Ito; hereinafter, 'Ruby Foundation') announces that its automatic furigana display function, 'Rubyful Button,' has been introduced to the 'Digital Space Map,' operated by the Astronomy Popularization Project 'Tenpla.'

Since April 2024, the Ruby Foundation has been offering the 'Rubyful Button' free of charge with the aim of ensuring and improving web accessibility for individuals who have difficulty reading Kanji, such as children and foreigners, by automatically adding ruby characters.

The 'Digital Space Map' is content created by the Astronomy Popularization Project 'Tenpla' with a grant from the Reiwa 7th fiscal year Children's Dream Fund. It is a digitized version of the 'Space Map 2024,' planned by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, National Institutes of Natural Sciences, and produced by the 'One Map for Every Family Space Map Production Committee.' Users can freely navigate within the space map and learn about the universe according to their interests.

This time, the 'Rubyful Button' was introduced with the aim of allowing more people to utilize it. It is possible to toggle the display of ruby characters on and off from the 'Furigana' button on the explanation page that appears when you click on text within the space map.

◆Comment from Mr. Naohiro Takanashi (Representative, Astronomy Popularization Project 'Tenpla')

What kind of world is this universe we live in? The science poster 'One Map for Every Family Space Map,' published by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, shows the appearance of the universe as revealed by the latest astronomy, in response to such simple questions. It is a simple diagram depicting what happened from the beginning of the universe to the present, but it uses many difficult Kanji characters, and raising the hurdle to reading it had become an issue. This time, by introducing the 'Rubyful Button' in the digitization process, we were able to solve this problem. We hope that many people will enjoy experiencing the universe.

◆About the Rubyful Button

The 'Rubyful Button' is a function that allows you to toggle the display of furigana for Kanji characters by simply adding one line of code to the HTML source of an existing website. Users can automatically display ruby on Kanji by pressing a button on the website.
