Yokumoku Museum (Minato City, Tokyo; Director: Yoko Fujinawa) regularly hosts its original workshop series 'Picasso de Art,' designed to cultivate visitors' 'perceptive abilities' and 'creative powers' through engagement with Picasso's works and life. This time, the third installment of the 'Symphony' series—where participants imagine 'sound' from artworks and exhibitions and express it on canvas—will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026. This hands-on program invites participants to translate the 'sounds' they perceive from the works of Picasso, Miró, and Barceló into visual art.

Immersive Workshop: 'Catalonia: Symphony of Love' – Feeling the Exhibition Through 'Sound,' Creating Through 'Art'

The program begins with a guided viewing of the current special exhibition, 'Ceramics by Picasso, Miró, Barceló: Love for Catalonia,' led by the museum's education and outreach curator. Participants will explore the works of Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Miquel Barceló, reflecting on their deep connections to the region of Catalonia and the profound emotions they held for this land.

During the viewing, participants will focus on the 'sounds' they imagine emanating from the artworks and the exhibition space as a whole. They will tune into the layered 'sounds' evoked by shapes, colors, and textures, interpreting these sensory impressions as a single symphony. This process transforms visual stimuli into auditory experiences, deepening perception through multisensory integration.

In the subsequent creation session, participants will use their own hands to express the imagined 'sounds' that resonated with them, translating their inner impressions onto canvas. By reinterpreting elements sensed from the artworks and space, they will experience the joy of creative expression through a process of personal reconstruction.

This workshop, connecting 'feeling' to 'creating' through the lens of Picasso, Miró, and Barceló's deep affection for Catalonia, is a signature experiential program unique to Yokumoku Museum. 'Picasso de Art' will continue to offer opportunities for visitors to develop their sensitivity and creativity through exhibition-linked creative activities.
