Background of Establishment

Children's future options are narrowed by differences in family environment and the adults they encounter.

This issue is greatly influenced not only by economic disparities but also by whether they can meet "adults they can speak to with peace of mind."

Representative Director Terada, having grown up in a single-parent household and experienced economic constraints herself, expanded her horizons and forged possibilities through encounters with trustworthy adults such as cram school teachers, coaches, and university seniors.

"I want to deliver the encounters I received to children this time."

That desire is the origin of mimamo.

To implement in society a place where children can speak their true feelings with peace of mind, a community where multiple generations can learn together, and a mechanism that sustainably supports children's opportunities through a cycle of learning, participation, and support, we established a general incorporated association as a foundation with continuity and public utility.

Main Initiatives of mimamo

mimamo is active in both direct support for children and the development of adults and mechanisms to support them.

1) 1-on-1 Online Dialogue "Kimi no Jikan" (Your Time)

2-4 times a month, 30-45 minutes per session. This is a safe and secure online dialogue space where trained mentors engage with each child individually. We value the experience of children "speaking in their own words" about daily worries, future plans, and casual topics.

2) Career Dialogue Sessions

Regularly held opportunities for small groups of children to directly converse with adults from various professions. By exposing children to diverse ways of living and working, we provide opportunities for them to think about their own future.

3) Intergenerational Online Self-Study Room "Mokumoku Heya" (Quiet Room)

Held twice a week (Thursdays and Sundays), 2 hours per session. This online self-study room fosters study habits and concentration by having participants declare their work goals with cameras on and reflect at the end. It is an intergenerational exchange space where both children and adults can participate together.

4) "study share" – A Mechanism to Support Children Through a Cycle of Learning

This is a cyclical mechanism where a portion of the usage fees paid by adults participating in "Mokumoku Heya" is allocated to support children's dialogue and learning. The action of individuals wanting to "learn" naturally leads to opportunities for others. This is mimamo's valued form of sustainable support, where learning, participation, and support circulate.

5) Supporter/Mentor Training

We provide training and development for mentors involved in dialogue with children. Through courses and training aimed at improving dialogue skills, we expand the pool of adults who support children.
