General Incorporated Association HLAB (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; Ryosuke Kobayashi, Representative Director; hereafter 'HLAB') creates spaces where people with diverse backgrounds gather and learn from each other under the concept 'Where diversity meets learning.'
As a flagship project embodying this philosophy, HLAB holds the 'HLAB Summer School,' a one-week residential program for high school students nationwide. This year, it will be held in two regions: Tokyo and Miyagi Prefecture's Onagawa Town.
Accordingly, HLAB is recruiting high school students to participate in the summer school until June 14 (Sun).
[What is HLAB Summer School?]
HLAB Summer School is a one-week educational program where high school students from across Japan live and eat with university mentors from both domestic and international institutions. It fosters the ability to think independently about their futures while being exposed to diverse values.
This year, a total of 88 mentors will participate: 61 from domestic universities such as the University of Tokyo and Kyoto University, and 27 from international universities such as Harvard University and Oxford University. Through 'Peer Mentorship'—where participants learn from and inspire each other as relatable role models ('peers') across borders and generations—learning based on dialogue and empathy unfolds.
The place of learning is not just a classroom. Through communal living, students inspire each other and cultivate the ability to collaborate with others and an attitude of accepting diversity. HLAB supports high schoolers' challenges as a new form of learning to flexibly navigate a rapidly changing society.
