On Friday, March 27, 'Hyakutas 100+' (General Incorporated Association 100-Year Life Design Council, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), led by freelance announcer Yumiko Udo as Representative Director and Editor-in-Chief, will release 'Hyakutas Taiso,' a new exercise program designed to help people live 'happily' through age 100 and beyond. For Hyakutas, being 'happy' means health in three areas: body, brain, and heart (connection to society). However, a common risk that threatens this foundation is 'falling.' Falling is the gateway to a 'negative loop' that leads from frailty to being bedridden, increasing the burden on society and creating a gap between generations. If seniors can maintain independent lives, they remain the protagonists of their own vibrant lives rather than a burden on society. With this wish in mind, we developed an exercise that anyone can start immediately in the 'living room,' where many falls occur. ■ Aiming for a new concept: 'Radio Taiso No. 0' Radio Taiso No. 1 and No. 2 are national habits. However, many people feel that the tempo is too fast or the movements are too large to keep up with. 'Hyakutas Taiso' aims to be, in a sense, 'Radio Taiso No. 0.' It condenses medically sound movements into the lowest possible barrier to entry, doable even during housework, well before starting full-scale exercise. We are proposing a 'No. 0' habit that has never existed before, ensuring that even those who are not good at exercise can continue. ■ Three goals of 'Hyakutas Taiso' Supervised by Professor Minoru Yamada of the University of Tsukuba, this program aims to build a 'physical foundation' to keep walking on your own feet in the 100-year life era. 1. Prevent 'falls' and protect independent living Reduces the risk of 'falls and fractures,' which are leading causes of seniors requiring nursing care. It efficiently conditions the muscle strength and balance necessary for walking in limited spaces like the living room. 2. A solution for those who find Radio Taiso 'too tough' For those who have given up on Radio Taiso because the tempo is too fast or the movements are too large, this 'No. 0' concept lowers the hurdle for exercise to the absolute minimum by reducing the load on the body. 3. Creating a sense of 'I can do this' even for those without exercise habits It condenses movements that smooth out daily activities, serving as a precursor to full-scale training. We provide a 'lifelong habit' that even those who dislike exercise can continue without strain during housework. ■ Simultaneous release on music subscription services. Connect with family using just a smartphone. This project will be available on the official Hyakutas website and via music streaming services.
