The Namu Namu Wakasa Obama Eight Temples Pilgrimage is currently underway!

This is a special project to visit the ancient "Eight Temples (Hachikaji)" scattered throughout Wakasa Obama, accompanied by an original tenugui amulet.

The common admission ticket is a three-ticket set that allows admission to three temples, so you can easily enjoy the Eight Temples Pilgrimage.

Furthermore, the tenugui amulets, each depicting a Buddhist statue from one of the Eight Temples, allow you to collect stamps from each temple, creating lasting memories of your journey. The opportunity to obtain a valuable item that is also a wonderful souvenir of your trip is a major attraction.

(The tenugui amulets have been blessed at Tadaji Temple!)

This is an experiential content that combines tourism with religious culture.

Experience the unique culture and healing of Wakasa Obama by visiting the historic Eight Temples

Obama, located in the center of Wakasa Province, played an important role as a base that supported the food culture of Nara and Kyoto in ancient times as "Miketsukuni" (a province that supplied food to the imperial court), and as a gateway for people and goods traveling across the sea.

Against this background, many temples were built in Obama from ancient times, and even today, many ancient temples and Buddhist statues, including National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, still exist.

In particular, the eight temples representing Wakasa Obama:

Myotsuji / Jinguji / Mantokuji / Tadaji / Myorakuji / Hagaji / Enshoji / Kokubunji

Are called the "Eight Temples."

At the Eight Temples, you can encounter main halls quietly nestled at the foot of mountains and Buddhist statues that have created different expressions over time, surprisingly close up.

The Eight Temples, as places of prayer well-preserved by local people, gently convey the history and spirit of the region, allowing visitors to feel the charm of a region where history and faith are still alive.

Background of the Project

Obama City is promoting the integrated preservation and utilization of cultural resources based on the Japan Heritage story. This campaign is part of that effort, providing temples and Buddhist statues, which are constituent cultural properties of Japan Heritage and representative tourism resources of Wakasa Obama, as an "experiential tour" to promote visitors' understanding and strengthen the dissemination of the region's appeal.

Furthermore, while Obama City has various tourism and cultural resources, it is also undertaking initiatives to connect them under the theme of "healing," and this project truly realizes "Culture x Tourism = Healing."

About the Wakasa Obama Tourism Association

Name: Wakasa Obama Tourism Association

Purpose: To actively promote tourism business and publicity activities in Obama City and the Wakasa Bay area, and to attract tourists through information provision, contributing to the development of industry and economy.
