The Japan DX Regional Revitalization Support Group, a general incorporated association, held a special online seminar on June 24 (Wed) in response to the open-source software (OSS) release of Government AI "Gennai" following the enforcement of the AI Act, marking a pivotal moment for digital transformation (DX) in local governments. The event attracted numerous participants from local government offices and private companies across Japan and concluded with great success.
Main Seminar Highlights
1. Keynote Speech by Deputy Director Shingo Yamaguchi, Digital Agency In the first session, Shingo Yamaguchi, Deputy Director of the Digital Agency, delivered a keynote speech titled "The Direction of AI Implementation in Government and the Background of the OSS Release of 'Gennai'."
He discussed the societal context behind the OSS release of Government AI "Gennai" amid this transformative period following the AI Act's enforcement, as well as the concrete direction for AI implementation in public administration going forward.
Additionally, he provided detailed explanations on the roadmap and implementation timeline for future functional enhancements, institutional preparations for local governments to operate AI safely and effectively, and key aspects of data governance.
2. Special Dialogue: Shingo Yamaguchi × Yuta Ibaraki, AndDot Co., Ltd. The second session featured a special dialogue between Deputy Director Yamaguchi and Yuta Ibaraki of AndDot Co., Ltd.
Centered on "AI Utilization within the LGWAN Environment," a top practical concern, they discussed concrete operational models for secure AI deployment and appropriate role-sharing between local governments and development vendors.
Furthermore, they offered in-depth recommendations on "standardizing the implementation process" to ensure smooth nationwide rollout across all local governments.
3. Participant Feedback (Selected from Post-Event Survey) Participants expressed high satisfaction and positive feedback, including: "It was extremely valuable to hear directly about policy intentions and future outlook," and "The content will immediately help with organizing internal workflows and developing guidelines at our agency."
