The Japan CTO Association (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masayuki Imamura; hereinafter: Japan CTO Association) will once again host the "New Graduate Engineer Joint Training" in fiscal year 2026. This program is a cross-company initiative to nurture new graduates, targeting new graduate engineers from the Association's corporate member companies and individual members.

This training program, which began in fiscal year 2024, is now entering its third year. The first session for this fiscal year will commence today, May 13, 2026 (Wednesday). A total of eight sessions, including six mandatory sessions and optional programs, will be conducted with the cooperation of eight instructor companies and six venue-providing companies.

Each year, the program has been highly praised by participating new graduate engineers and their affiliated companies. This year, to provide a fulfilling training environment for new graduate engineers who are eager to learn proactively, participation requirements have been clarified, and the program will accommodate 100 participants.

Background of the "New Graduate Engineer Joint Training"

The Japan CTO Association's mission is "to make technological self-transformation commonplace in Japanese society." Its objective is to contribute to the development of the Japanese economy by promoting technology penetration in corporate management and fostering world-class engineers.

Recruiting and developing engineers is a critical management challenge regardless of industry or scale. The following three points, in particular, present significant hurdles for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs):

There is a persistent shortage of engineers in Japan as companies seek to expand their businesses and venture into new areas.
For startups and SMEs, hiring new graduate engineers involves not only significant recruitment costs but also substantial training costs.
There is a lack of opportunities for new graduate engineers to gain a broad perspective and practical experience beyond the confines of their own companies.

Against this backdrop, an increasing number of companies have been foregoing new graduate recruitment activities in recent years. To solve the persistent problem of engineer shortages, investment in "development" is essential, not just recruitment.

This training program was launched in fiscal year 2024 with the aim of increasing the number of self-reliant leaders and individuals capable of fulfilling the role of CTO across the industry in the future.

Building Lifelong Colleagues: Establishment of "Connect Meetup"

In previous years, a "social gathering" was held at the same venue after each training session. Starting this year, it will be renamed "Connect Meetup" to facilitate interaction as a dialogue-centered platform after the training.

"Building a lifelong network of colleagues who can challenge and inspire each other beyond the boundaries of their own companies" is one of the objectives of this training. Past participant surveys have shown feedback such as, "Because of this time, I was able to make engineer friends with whom I can consult even after the training."
