Scenes from the Previous World Championships (2024 / Cairo, Egypt)

The 3rd IHF 4-a-side Wheelchair Handball World Championship was held in Cairo, Egypt, from September 17-21, 2024. Japan received extensive support through crowdfunding and was able to participate in the World Championships for the first time.

Despite being their debut appearance, they competed against the world's best, achieving a final ranking of 5th place. This tournament demonstrated that Japan had narrowed the gap with top teams and could contend with powerhouses, bringing them closer to their long-cherished goal of "winning a medal."

Finally

We have been working to promote and improve wheelchair handball, organizing domestic competitions, experience events, and strengthening the Japanese national team, aiming for the popularization and enhancement of competitive ability of wheelchair handball.

We believe this sport, where people with and without disabilities can play on the same field, holds great potential. However, in Japan, awareness and the number of participants are still insufficient, and the competitive environment is still under development.

Thanks to the extensive support from everyone in the previous crowdfunding, we were able to send the Japanese national team to the World Championships.

However, a continuous and high-quality reinforcement environment is indispensable to compete globally, and currently, athletes and staff still have to rely on their own expenses.

Nevertheless, the athletes continue their daily efforts, aiming to challenge the world from Japan and spread this sport.

This project is an initiative to create an environment that supports these challenges and connects to the future of wheelchair handball.
