Overview

The General Incorporated Association Yumeshima New Industry and Urban Creation Organization is an open innovation platform established in conjunction with the Osaka-Kansai Expo. It promotes co-creation across a wide range of fields, including new industry creation, environment and energy, healthcare, art, tourism, and regional revitalization. Leveraging the outcomes of the Osaka-Kansai Expo, which welcomed participation from 158 countries and regions, and in anticipation of the 2030 opening of Osaka IR, the organization connects domestic and international networks to contribute to the realization of a sustainable and creative future society where 'life shines'—from Yumeshima and Osaka-Kansai to the entire nation.

Objectives

(1) To build and sustain an open innovation hub that promotes new industry creation and future city development through international public-private-academic collaboration, in coordination with the Expo and Osaka IR.

(2) To research urban development models for Yumeshima utilizing the Expo and Osaka IR, and to explore future societal visions—including new values and socioeconomic systems—targeting the year 2050.

(3) To establish mechanisms and promote partnerships that support regional coexistence, industry development, visitor attraction, and regional revitalization within the IR industry, including the creation of a procurement platform that includes mid-sized and small enterprises.

Activities

(1) Conducting surveys, research, and making policy recommendations on topics related to the Expo, Osaka IR, and Yumeshima urban development.

(2) Establishing, operating, and fostering public-private-academic open innovation hubs and ecosystems.

(3) Supporting the demonstration, implementation, and commercialization of new technologies and services developed through public-private-academic collaboration.

(4) Collaborating and coordinating with stakeholders, national and local governments, economic organizations, and others involved in the Expo, Osaka IR, and Yumeshima urban development.

(5) Disseminating information related to the organization’s activities, hosting symposia and lectures, and facilitating mutual learning and networking among members.

(6) Undertaking other activities necessary to achieve the organization’s objectives.

◆ About the 3rd Japan International Art Festival

The 'Japan International Art Festival,' hosted by the General Incorporated Association Yumeshima New Industry and Urban Creation Organization, follows the 1st (2023) and 2nd (2024) editions. During the six-month period of the Osaka-Kansai Expo (April 13 to October 13, 2025), which welcomed 158 countries and regions and 7 international organizations, the 3rd Japan International Art Festival was held across a network connecting the Expo site, Kyoto, Kansai, and nationwide locations. The festival was selected as part of the 'Japan Expo 2.0' (commissioned project) and received support from expert committee members, culminating in a highly successful event.

'3rd Japan International Art Festival Osaka-Kansai Expo Exhibition'

At the main venue of the 3rd Japan International Art Festival—the 2025 Japan International Exposition site, EXPO MESSE 'WASSE'—the Yumeshima Organization hosted the '3rd Japan International Art Festival / Osaka-Kansai Expo Exhibition' as the main event from July 2 (Wed) to July 6 (Sun). A total of 54 groups, including major religious institutions, member companies of the Yumeshima Organization, local governments, universities, and domestic and international artists, operated 106 exhibition booths.

Over five days—including Japan Day (July 3, Wed), the most anticipated National Day of the Osaka-Kansai Expo—over 50,000 visitors experienced the pinnacle of Japanese beauty and spirit. The opening ceremony on the first day and the entire event were widely covered by numerous media outlets.
