The Oirase Towada Utilization Council and the Oirase Gorge Ecotourism Project Executive Committee have been continuously implementing private car traffic restrictions on the Route 102 Oirase Gorge section since the 15th year of Heisei (2003) with the aim of conserving the natural environment of the Oirase Gorge and resolving traffic congestion.

This initiative is part of a social experiment aimed at allowing visitors to experience the riverside as a 'complete nature museum,' looking towards the future after the opening of the Aoibuchi Bypass. In Reiwa 8th year (2026), the period will be advanced by more than one month from the usual late October, and will be implemented from Monday, September 7th to Sunday, September 13th.

As the implementation period differs significantly from previous years, we kindly request all tourists and travel industry professionals to pay close attention when planning your trips and arranging vehicles.

Purpose of Implementation and Background of Schedule Change

This experiment aims to reduce the impact of exhaust gases on trees by restricting vehicle traffic, create an environment where pedestrians can enjoy nature safely and quietly, and verify tourism methods that balance nature conservation with appropriate utilization.

This year, it will be implemented in early September to verify the optimization of the traffic environment in 'early autumn Oirase,' avoiding the peak congestion period of autumn foliage.
