Dialogue Japan Society (Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Kiyoe Shimura) will open the experiential lab "Dialog in the Dark 5-1=∞ Lab." on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at NEWoMan Takanawa MIMURE.
This facility is a new base for "Dialog in the Dark," where participants enjoy dialogue with others using senses other than sight, guided by visually impaired attendants, in complete darkness that blocks out all light.
As the first program at this new base, in collaboration with OGAWA COFFEE LABORATORY Takanawa, we will offer a program to savor coffee in the dark. By relinquishing sight, participants can focus on their sense of smell, taste, touch, and communication with others, encountering an expansion of their senses that they might not have noticed before.

◾️Concept: "This coffee, no one has ever known it before."
The moment you let go of your sight, the world is quietly reborn.
The contours of the aroma rise sharply,
The warmth of the cup transfers from your fingertips to your heart.
The coffee you encounter in the darkness
Will show a different face than any cup
You have tasted before.
Take your time to contemplate a single bean,
Nurtured by the earth and sun,
And passed through many hands.
Ultimate relaxation lies beyond the liberation of your senses.
◾️Experience Details
In the approximately 80-minute program, participants will experience it as a team in complete darkness, "100% pure," where light is completely blocked, under the guidance of visually impaired attendants.
In the darkness, you will not only savor coffee but also touch the beans, smell their aroma, and contemplate the story of how they were grown, passed through human hands, and delivered to become a cup of coffee.
Because it is an environment that does not rely on sight, taste, smell, and touch are heightened, allowing you to experience the everyday act of "savoring coffee" with different senses than before. Furthermore, natural dialogue arises among participants, and the distance between people gradually shrinks. Through the experience, new insights are gained into understanding others and ways of communication.
◾️Comment from Yoshinori Uda, President and CEO of Ogawa Coffee Co., Ltd.
When I first experienced Dialog in the Dark, I was struck by how closing my eyes opened up my other senses. In the darkness, even strangers naturally help each other and communication arises.
At MIMURE, we aim to create a place where small joys in everyday life are accumulated. Savoring coffee in the dark and exchanging words like "This is delicious" with someone. I feel that such modest dialogues will become important times for society going forward.
