The Onsen General Election (Organizer: Travel to Japan Project, Operations Office: Japan Design Association (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), Onsen General Election Chief Producer/Social Entrepreneur: Taro Yamashita), which is implementing an revitalization project for the hot spring industry with the support of 5 ministries*, has opened entry for the "Onsen General Election 2026" and "Onsen Ryokan/Hotel General Election 2026" starting at 10 AM on July 1 (Wed).

*As of July 1, 2026, the supporting ministries are the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Applications are pending with other ministries.

The "Onsen General Election," now in its 10th year, and the "Onsen Ryokan/Hotel General Election," in its 5th year, aim to widely promote the appeal of hot spring resorts and ryokan/hotels by ranking them based on public votes, thereby encouraging people to use hot springs. Last year, the elections were featured in many TV programs, newspapers, and on the web.

Furthermore, the Onsen General Election 2026 includes not only public votes but also Ministry Awards (Minister of the Environment Award, Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award)* and various special awards to evaluate initiatives for the revitalization of hot spring areas, contributing to the revitalization of award-winning hot spring resorts each year. *Applications are pending with other ministries.
