New Chronograph Model from 'Santos de Cartier'

Defying time and looking far ahead. The spirit of the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont lives on in the new model of the 'Santos de Cartier' chronograph watch. This chronograph inherits the pioneering spirit of those who, like him, elegantly push the boundaries.

A Vibrant Tradition

This watch was created by reinterpreting the 'Santos de Cartier' chronograph launched in 2020, aiming for performance and everyday wearability. While optimizing the functionality and versatility of the original model, this new chronograph achieves a more refined dial and size, and is available in three variations: gold, gold & steel, and all steel.

The constant pursuit of excellence is inherited from Alberto Santos-Dumont, who possessed an insatiable pioneering spirit. In 1904, he commissioned Louis Cartier to create a watch that could tell the time during flight, which became the world's first modern watch designed to be worn on the wrist. At the time, speed was a major concern for Santos-Dumont. He set one record after another in aviation, including a speed record in 1906 of flying 220 meters in 21 seconds.

Cartier's new large chronograph model, created to measure records, carries on this tradition into the 21st century.

Santos: Balancing Design and Advanced Technology

The new model retains the clean design of the 'Santos' watch, concentrating the DNA of a mechanical watch in a large chronograph model measuring 47.5 x 39.8mm. The dial features alternating satin and sunray finishes, and the black sword-shaped hands are coated with Super-LumiNova®, a luminescent green material. Furthermore, three counters for seconds, minutes, and hours are placed at the 6, 3, and 9 o'clock positions, with luminous yellow gold or rhodium-plated borders depending on the model. Contrast is emphasized, maximizing legibility.

This high level of finishing involves over 70 steps, from the dial stamping to the final protective coating, including transfers and luminous borders on the counters.

Every element highlights the iconic form and symbolic codes of this watch, born to aim higher. The eight screws are polished, and the seven-sided crown is set with a faceted blue synthetic spinel, or a sapphire on the gold model.

High-Performance Movement Designed for Daily Use

This chronograph model, equipped with the Caliber 1904-CH MC automatic mechanical manufacture movement named after the year the first 'Santos' watch was created, perfectly demonstrates Cartier's high level of watchmaking expertise. The chronograph caliber features two pushers for start/stop and reset functions, offering precision, comfort, and reliability ideal for everyday use.

The 'Santos de Cartier' chronograph watch boasts water resistance up to 10 atmospheres and excellent resistance to magnetism, shock, and temperature changes. Guaranteed long-term durability through numerous quality tests, this watch has a 47-hour power reserve.

Additionally, the watch bracelet features the 'SmartLink' system for size adjustment in seconds, as well as the interchangeable 'QuickSwitch' system.

The new 'Santos de Cartier' chronograph watch will be available at Cartier boutiques and the Cartier official online boutique in Japan from Friday, June 5th.
