UCB Japan K.K. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Kanako Kikuchi) will hold a talk session on Saturday, June 6, to raise awareness of Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). The event, titled "Is It Okay to Just Watch That Skin Trouble? It Might Be Hidradenitis Suppurativa! If in Doubt, Go to the Dermatologist!", will be live-streamed on the official UCB Japan YouTube channel. The first week of June is designated as "Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) Awareness Week" to promote understanding and awareness of the condition. HS is a chronic skin disease characterized by pain, swelling, and inflammation in areas such as the armpits, buttocks, groin, and joints. As it progresses, it can cause severe pain and interfere with daily life. While early consultation and appropriate treatment are crucial, the disease has low awareness, and the current situation is that it takes an average of seven years to receive a definitive diagnosis*¹. In line with this awareness week, our company has planned this event to deepen the understanding of this disease among a wider audience and encourage them to seek appropriate treatment early through a live stream on our official YouTube channel. The event will feature the comedy duo Pekopa, Shupei and Shoinji Taiyu, in a talk session to deepen understanding of the often-overlooked skin condition, Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). Dr. Sayaka Yamaguchi, a lecturer at the University of the Ryukyus Graduate School of Medicine, will discuss treatment methods and choices for HS, while Professor Toshifumi Nomura from the Department of Dermatology at the University of Tsukuba will speak about the disease from a medical perspective. Through this event, we aim to communicate the importance of facing one's own skin and to make "skin health management" a more familiar part of daily life, providing an opportunity for people to consult a dermatologist casually and early if they have concerning symptoms.
