Yamato Protec Develops New "Foam Spray Fire Extinguishing Head / Foam Spray Fire Extinguishing System" Achieving Rapid Extinguishment with Highly Directed Foam Discharge

Yamato Protec has developed a new "Foam Spray Fire Extinguishing Head / Foam Spray Fire Extinguishing System" that balances the straightness and diffusion of foam. This enables rapid extinguishing of fuel fires in under 20 seconds and contributes to environmental load reduction by using non-fluorine agents.

Comprehensive disaster prevention company, Yamato Protec Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and COO: Hitoshi Osachi) has developed a new foam spray fire extinguishing head and foam spray fire extinguishing system that shortens the extinguishing time, which was a challenge with conventional foam fire extinguishing methods. This technology adopts a unique structure that diffuses and foams while maintaining the straightness of the foam extinguishing agent, thereby demonstrating rapid and high extinguishing performance against fuel fires. This technology is currently patent pending.

Experiment on fire extinguishing

■Background of Development

In conventional foam fire extinguishing equipment, it was common to scatter foam extinguishing agents in an arc shape using deflectors, etc., which took time for the foam to spread over the fuel surface. Particularly, in fires involving fuel spills or oil fires, faster and more reliable extinguishing performance was required. In response to these challenges, our company has been working on developing a new extinguishing method that achieves both the "diffusibility" and "straightness" of foam.

■Features of the New Foam Extinguishing Head

1. Unique structure achieving both straightness and diffusibility

The newly developed foam spray fire extinguishing head diffuses and foams with high straightness. This allows the foam to quickly reach and spread over the fuel surface compared to conventional methods, enabling a reduction in extinguishing time.

2. Extinguishing mechanism demonstrating "removal effect"

This technology, in addition to the "suffocation effect" and "cooling effect" of conventional foam extinguishing, exhibits a "removal effect" where the foam acts to push away the fuel surface. This achieves high extinguishing performance, especially for fuel spill fires.

3. Compatible with non-fluorine foam extinguishing agents

This system is compatible with non-fluorine foam extinguishing agents primarily composed of hydrocarbon-based surfactants. It is an environmentally friendly extinguishing technology developed with a view to reducing environmental load and complying with future environmental regulations.

■Results of Fire Extinguishing Performance Test

A fire extinguishing test simulating a fuel fire was conducted with multiple foam extinguishing heads installed on the ceiling. As a result, extinguishment was confirmed in a short time of 20 seconds or less under fire conditions involving fuel spillage. This test confirmed that this technology is effective for rapid initial fire extinguishing.

[Experimental conditions]

Experiment content: 1,200 ml of hazardous material was sprayed and ignited.

Fire pan size: 2m (W) x 6m (D) x 0.05m (H)

Experimental result: Extinguished in approximately 20 seconds or less after system activation.

Extinguished in approximately 10 seconds immediately after ignition
