[MCPC] Preparing to Launch an Initiative to Visualize 'Safety and Quality Management Philosophies' for Mobile Battery Suppliers Amid Rising Accidents

The Mobile Computing Promotion Consortium (MCPC) will transition to an operational phase in early June 2026, based on its 'Mobile Battery Safety and Quality Guidelines' published in April 2026. This initiative serves as the industry's first common framework for businesses to clearly explain their efforts in safety and quality assurance based on actual operational practices.

This initiative does not evaluate or guarantee the performance or safety of specific products. Instead, it operates as a voluntary conformity declaration system, organizing how mobile battery businesses approach safety and quality, including 'product background' factors such as manufacturing processes, quality management, after-sales service, and product life cycles including end-of-use. This makes it easier to compare and understand safety and quality assurance efforts that previously varied by business.

Background:

With the recent increase in fires and accidents caused by mobile batteries, there is a growing demand from the public on how to distinguish safe products.

MCPC is launching this mobile battery safety and quality conformity system, focusing on 'product background' factors that are difficult to judge from product appearance and specs alone, such as 'manufacturing processes,' 'quality management,' 'after-sales support systems,' and 'product life cycles including end-of-life.'

Through this initiative, the approaches and systems for ensuring safety and quality for each business will be organized and visualized from a unified perspective.

What this Operational Phase Entails:

In this phase, MCPC will organize and visualize the efforts of businesses that work toward ensuring safety and quality in accordance with the 'Mobile Battery Safety and Quality Guidelines.'

If certain confirmations are met based on the guidelines, businesses will be granted the 'MCPC Conformity Mark.' This mark does not evaluate or guarantee the safety of specific products, nor does it indicate superiority.

The 'MCPC Conformity Mark' is provided as a 'common language' for mobile battery suppliers to explain their safety and quality management philosophies and systems to users, and is expected to serve as the minimum premise for suppliers to explain their commitment to safety and quality externally.

The goal is to organize and communicate factors that are difficult to understand from specs or appearance, such as manufacturing processes, quality management, and after-sales support.

Specifically, it reviews:
- Systems for quality assurance, such as manufacturing processes and supplier management
- Philosophies regarding after-sales support, such as inquiry response and accident response systems
- Safety considerations throughout the product life cycle, including end-of-life (collection and disposal information systems, etc.)

These are voluntary efforts to organize how businesses approach safety and quality, not to evaluate or guarantee the safety of individual products.

Positioning of this Initiative:

- It does not replace legal certifications or existing third-party certifications.
- It does not indicate the superiority of specific products or suppliers.
- It is not a system for regulation or surveillance.

Future Plans:

- MCPC plans to verify the operation status while monitoring market trends and accident reports, and revise the operation methods or guidelines as necessary. The goal is for this initiative to assist businesses in explaining their efforts and help users think about product selection.
- For users, it aims to provide a new perspective when considering safety and quality management alongside product specs and price.
- MCPC has already received interest and inquiries regarding the program from several member businesses and plans to enhance the program content going forward.
