MetLife Foundation Announces First Grant Recipients of FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund

FIFA and Global Citizen have announced the first grant recipients of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. This fund aims to expand opportunities for children worldwide to access quality education and sports. For this first round, grants were awarded to 27 organizations across 10 countries. MetLife Foundation, as one of the fund's founding donors, has committed $9 million.

As a supporter of this fund, MetLife Foundation is continuously engaged in activities to help children worldwide receive quality education. The fund supports programs focused on sports, education, and skill development, thereby enabling community-based organizations to broaden their activities and contribute to the revitalization of their local communities.

The first grant recipients include Japan-based Specified Non-profit Organization SDGs Promise Japan and General Incorporated Association UBUNTU FS Promotion. They have been approved to receive grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000, aiming to further strengthen initiatives that are already achieving results in their local communities.

The 27 organizations selected as grant recipients worldwide were recognized for their programs that expand access to education and sports in their communities. These initiatives collectively impact tens of thousands of children, including in regions where less than 15% of people complete secondary education and where over 60% of residents live in poverty. By supporting proven programs that integrate learning, sports, and community engagement, the fund contributes to creating opportunities for children and their communities to move towards a more secure future.

The fund aims to raise a total of $100 million to provide children worldwide with access to quality education and sports. Since its establishment in 1976, education support has been a crucial activity for MetLife Foundation. Currently, it supports a brighter future for youth globally through financial literacy, STEM learning, and mentoring.

Applications for the second round of grants from this fund are now open. Organizations providing children worldwide with access to education and sports can apply for grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000 via globalcitizen.org/education-fund-apply.
