Philip Morris Japan G.K. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Shelley Go; hereinafter "PMJ") has cooperated with Fujisawa City's initiative to beautify public spaces by donating a combined smoking area at Fujisawa Station North Exit, which separates dedicated spaces for heated tobacco and conventional cigarettes. This facility began operation on February 24, 2026.

Fujisawa Station North Exit is a major station boasting one of the highest numbers of users in the prefecture. Previously, complaints regarding smoke and odor from pedestrians were received near the existing smoking area close to the station square (along the main street towards the city hall). In light of this background, by separating the spaces for conventional and heated tobacco and arranging the layout to minimize impact on the station front, the aim is to create a safer and more comfortable environment.

On March 23, 2026, a letter of appreciation ceremony was held at Fujisawa City Hall, where Mayor Tsuneo Suzuki presented a letter of appreciation to our company.

【Comment from Tsuneo Suzuki, Mayor of Fujisawa City】

I express my sincere gratitude for your cooperation in improving the environment of Fujisawa City, which has a population of over 400,000. Especially at Fujisawa Station North Exit, where many people transfer between JR and Odakyu lines, the establishment of a smoking area that separates the usage spaces for heated tobacco and conventional cigarettes will lead to the creation of a comfortable and safe environment for many users.

Furthermore, we expect that the development of such smoking environments will contribute to improving user manners.

We will continue to collaborate with PMJ to further improve manners and create safe and comfortable public spaces in Fujisawa City.

【Comment from Hitoshi Tsuruoka, Manager of Environmental Development Department, Philip Morris Japan G.K.】

PMJ aims to realize a smoke-free society and is working to create an environment where smokers aged 20 and over, heated tobacco users, and non-smokers can coexist. As part of this, we have supported environmental improvements at over 150 locations nationwide in cooperation with private companies and local governments.

We are deeply honored to have been able to donate a combined smoking area that separates heated tobacco and conventional tobacco usage spaces, contributing to the promotion of environmental beautification in Fujisawa City. We hope that by separating the usage spaces for conventional and heated tobacco, we can contribute even a little to the creation of a comfortable and safe station front environment.

PMJ aims to contribute to Japanese society by not only providing products and services but also by emphasizing both technological innovation in public space creation and a local perspective. This initiative is based on that policy.
