Nagano Interior, celebrating its 80th anniversary, will hold a major exhibition at its head office factory starting July 7.
Shifting from "furniture tailored to size" to "furniture that shapes comfort and preferences." Introducing the new "Home Lounge" concept and debuting items from the 2026 Milan Design Week (Milano Salone International Furniture Fair) in Japan for the first time.
Nagano Interior Industry Co., Ltd. (President and Representative Director: Takahiro Nagano), which has consistently focused on "wooden furniture" and "in-house production" in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, since its founding in 1946, will celebrate its 80th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, we will hold a major exhibition, "a. - Made in Asakura -," from Tuesday, July 7 to Thursday, July 9, 2026, to showcase the future of our daily living and craftsmanship.
At this exhibition, while leveraging our established strength in custom orders (where sizes and wood species can be chosen), we will present a new expression of Nagano Interior themed around "sensory customization"—allowing users to freely combine colors, materials, and finishes (CMF) to create spaces suited to their preferences.
We also plan to propose "Home Lounge," a new lifestyle of creating one's own special spot in the home rather than the traditional living room where the entire family faces the television, and to host the domestic debut of products exhibited at the Milano Salone International Furniture Fair in April this year.
During the exhibition, we will host special talk events for three consecutive days starting at 15:00 daily, featuring guest speakers such as designer Kazuako Murasawa, who has long supported Nagano Interior's furniture design, designer Kiyoshi Sadogawa, and Mao Tsujiki, who brings traditional Kokura-ori weaving into the modern era. Factory tours will also be conducted.
Thoughts Behind the Exhibition Name "a."
The exhibition name "a." combines our gratitude for Asakura, our beloved hometown where we have continued craftsmanship for 80 years, with the idea of a "beginning" (the first letter of the alphabet: a) as we take our next steps into the future. We will open our own factory in Asakura (the site of our manufacturing) to show our upcoming challenges.
Three Highlights of the Exhibition
1. Three Styles for Color and Material Proposals Tailored to Lifestyles
Nagano Interior has always valued a custom-order system that allows sizes and functions to be selected in detail. Going forward, we will further evolve this system to help customers shape their preferences by combining a rich variety of wood species and fabrics. At the booths, we will propose three straightforward interior styles as reference standards: Pure-natural, Blend-natural, and Chic-natural.
2. "Home Lounge": A New Way of Living by Creating One's Own Special Spot
In an era of increasingly personalized lifestyles, creating a space of one's own where one can relax like a hotel lounge (a home lounge) is a true form of modern wealth. We will unveil a new lounge chair designed by Kiyoshi Sadogawa, which serves as the centerpiece of such spaces, for the first time.
3. Local Materials and Global Challenges
A collaboration between the woodworking technology of Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and the beautiful textiles of "Kokura Shima-shima (Kokura-ori)," a traditional weaving technique nurtured in Fukuoka. We will present furniture that serves as a beautiful accent in any room. Furthermore, the products exhibited at the Milano Salone International Furniture Fair in April this year will be open to the public for the first time in Japan.
