A New Kind of "Immersive" Experience: The Entire Space Becomes a Stage of Light. A Show of Music and Light Spanning 360 Degrees of a Historical Building
This performance utilizes 360-degree projection mapping, transforming the walls, ceiling, and pillars of the Central Hall on the 1st floor of the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts into screens. Combined with visuals created specifically for the architectural space and Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," attendees can enjoy an immersive experience lasting approximately 30 minutes, divided into six parts.
The Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts has supported Osaka's culture since its opening in 1936. The vast space of the Central Hall, with its white vaulted ceiling and imposing pillars, creates an overwhelming scale. This, coupled with the expansive walls that receive light, lends deep dimension and immersion to the 360-degree visuals. When the dignity of this Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property (Building), with its nearly 90-year history, merges with Vivaldi's music and light art, an experience unique to this space unfolds.
The first half of the show visually and audibly expresses the transitions of "Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter." In the fifth act, "Ignorance," the cycle of life and suffering unfolds as visuals across the entire space. The final act, "Enlightenment," fills the space with overwhelming light, symbolizing liberation from all constraints. Music and light unite, drawing the audience into the narrative.
In addition to chairs, beanbag cushions are also provided in the venue. By relaxing into the soft cushions while gazing at the world of light unfolding above and all around, a deeper sense of immersion can be enjoyed. Furthermore, photography and videography are permitted during the performance.
This production has been performed in over 90 cities worldwide, receiving enthusiastic responses in each country. Visitors from around the globe have shared moving testimonials, describing it as "a breathtakingly magnificent show" and "a magical time." It is known as a work supported by a wide range of ages, from children to seniors.
This year, an immersive spectacle show with a proven track record overseas makes its Japan premiere in Osaka, a city that has garnered global attention with the Expo. Experience "ENLIGHTENMENT," where light, sound, and visuals merge around the theme of the four seasons, within the space of a "Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property (Building)."
