Desamis Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Seike) is pleased to announce that its cattle behavior monitoring system, "U-motion®," now supports breeding cattle with its ear tag sensor.

Previously, the ear tag sensor was offered for fattening cattle. Now, support for breeding cattle has been realized, allowing us to provide ear tag sensors to producers engaged in a wider range of farming operations, including breeding, integrated farming, in addition to fattening operations.

Development Background: Responding to Field Needs, Realizing Support for Breeding Cattle

In the livestock industry, against a backdrop of labor shortages and the increasing sophistication of animal husbandry management, there is a growing need to efficiently grasp individual cattle's condition changes, even during nighttime hours when observation is difficult or when staff are away from the farm. Particularly in breeding operations, early detection of estrus signs and diseases is directly linked to improved productivity, leading to expanding expectations for management utilizing behavioral data.

Through its ear tag sensor for fattening cattle, Desamis has been collecting and analyzing cattle behavior data to support health management and early detection of abnormalities.

As the need for consistent sensor utilization grows in breeding and integrated farming operations, in addition to fattening operations, Desamis has proceeded with accumulating and verifying behavioral data for breeding cattle to support a wider range of farming types. By establishing a system that can be utilized for breeding management, we have now commenced support for breeding cattle with the ear tag sensor.

Details of This Support

With this new support, breeding cattle can also utilize the ear tag sensor, enabling confirmation of changes in activity levels and durations, such as feeding, rumination, and standing/lying, on U-motion.

It records behavior during nighttime hours or when staff are away from the farm, supporting the grasp of estrus signs and disease tendencies. This contributes to creating an environment that facilitates smoother daily inspections, individual condition management, and information sharing among staff.
