Background of the Decision to Continue
We would like to express our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this forest fire and those forced to evacuate.
On the afternoon of April 22, 2026, a forest fire broke out in two locations, Kozuchi district and Kirikiri district of Otsuchi-cho, Kamihei-gun, Iwate Prefecture, and the fire spread through the next day, the 23rd. The burned area exceeds 100 hectares, and damage to more than 5 buildings, including residences, has been confirmed. Evacuation orders have been issued to a total of about 700 households and over 1,000 people in the three districts of Kirikiri, Ando, and Akahama, and Iwate Prefecture has requested disaster relief from the Self-Defense Forces. Aerial firefighting by the prefectural disaster prevention helicopter is also being conducted, but as of the 23rd, the fire has not been suppressed (firefighting activities resumed from early morning on the same day).
The Company had been offering free access to the EV fast charger "FLASH" at a total of 5 locations in Hokkaido and Iwate Prefectures from the same day following the earthquake with an epicenter off the coast of Sanriku on April 20, 2026. Considering the occurrence of this forest fire and its widespread impact, we will continue to operate the 3 locations in Iwate Prefecture at 0 yen.
Although the target locations are inland, we hope that by utilizing them to secure transportation for those evacuating over a wide area and as charging spots for support vehicles heading to coastal disaster areas, we can support the early recovery of the region from behind the scenes.
Regarding the two locations in Hokkaido (Tomakomai City and Nishi-ku, Sapporo City), since no major aftershocks or expansion of infrastructure damage have been confirmed since the earthquake, the free access will end on April 23, 2026. We will continue to monitor future developments.
