Armani / Silos and Fondazione Piccolo America are pleased to announce the third edition of their collaborative film screening series, "Big City Life," beginning April 1st. This year's theme focuses on the portrayal of cities in contemporary cinema, exploring how major metropolises have been depicted as significant entities on screen. Through five films selected by Fondazione Piccolo America, the series examines the relationship between imagery and urban space, highlighting how the metropolis functions as "another character"—multifaceted and rich—within cinematic narratives. Through a mix of screenings and talks, the audience will see how leading contemporary directors have captured cities around the world as ever-changing, living organisms. The program traverses diverse lands and imaginative landscapes: Martin Scorsese's high-speed New York, Mario Martone's secret-filled Naples, Fatih Akin's Istanbul portrayed through sound and streetscapes, Agnès Varda's restless Paris, and Wong Kar-wai's romantic Hong Kong. Each city emerges with a vivid presence and sharp contours within these works. The series kicks off on April 1st with a screening of "After Hours" (1985), Scorsese's depiction of a chaotic and surprising night in New York. This is followed on April 9th by "Nostalgia" (2022), a story that portrays Naples through themes of memory, identity, and belonging. On April 15th and 22nd, the series features the cult favorite "Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul" (2005), which decodes the Turkish city through its music, and "Cléo from 5 to 7" (1962), which vividly captures 1960s Paris in real-time. The series concludes on April 29th with "Chungking Express" (1994), capturing the heat and fleeting moments of daily life in Hong Kong. Each screening will be followed by a talk session moderated by journalist Mattia Carzaniga. Guests from the film and culture sectors are expected to join, with the lineup to be announced in the coming days. To ensure accessibility for international visitors, all films will be screened in their original languages with Italian subtitles. This initiative embodies Armani / Silos' commitment to supporting younger generations and promoting culture and cinema. Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, Armani / Silos will support "Il Cinema in Piazza," a free film festival organized by Fondazione Piccolo America, scheduled to take place in Rome in the summer of 2026. Full program details and reservation methods are available at armanisilos.com. Additionally, the Armani / Silos Café will remain open late until the start of each screening.
