Armani / Silos Film Screening Series "Big City Life"

Armani / Silos and Fondazione Piccolo America are launching their third collaborative film screening series, "Big City Life," on April 1st. This year, the series explores the depiction of cities in contemporary cinema, examining how metropolises have been portrayed on screen. Through five films selected by Fondazione Piccolo America, the series will investigate the relationship between cinema and urban space, focusing on how large cities function as complex and rich "other characters" within film narratives. The series aims to introduce audiences to how contemporary directors have perceived global cities as constantly evolving, living entities, through screenings and talks. The program spans diverse locations and imaginative landscapes: the fast-paced New York depicted by Martin Scorsese, the secret-filled Naples by Mario Martone, Istanbul through its sounds and streets by Fatih Akin, the restless Paris captured by Agnès Varda, and the romantic Hong Kong portrayed by Wong Kar-wai. Each city stands out with vivid contours within its respective film. The series kicks off on April 1st with "After Hours" (1985), Scorsese's film following a night of surprises and madness in New York. On April 9th, "Nostalgia" (2022) will be screened, a story depicting Naples through memory, identity, and belonging. On April 15th and 22nd, the cult favorite "Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul" (2005) will be shown, which deciphers the Turkish city through music, followed by "Cléo from 5 to 7" (1962), a vibrant real-time depiction of Paris in the 1960s. The series concludes on April 29th with "Chungking Express" (1994), capturing the fervor and ephemerality of daily life in Hong Kong. Each screening will be followed by a talk session moderated by journalist Mattia Carzaniga, featuring guests from the film and cultural fields, with further details to be announced in the coming days. To accommodate international visitors, all films will be screened in their original languages with Italian subtitles. This initiative embodies Armani / Silos' commitment to continuous support for younger generations and the promotion of culture and cinema. Armani / Silos will also support Fondazione Piccolo America's free film festival "Il Cinema in Piazza" for the fourth consecutive year, scheduled for summer 2026 in Rome.
