[Armani / Silos] Movie Screening Series "Big City Life"

Armani / Silos and Fondazione Piccolo America will launch their third collaborative film screening series, "Big City Life," on April 1st.

This year, the series explores how contemporary cinema portrays the city, investigating the role of major metropolises on screen.

Through five works selected by Fondazione Piccolo America, the series examines the relationship between film and urban space, focusing on how large cities function as "another character"—multi-layered and rich in presence—within cinematic narratives. Through screenings and talks, the audience will see how representative contemporary directors have captured cities around the world as constantly changing, living entities.

The program traverses diverse locales and imaginative landscapes: Martin Scorsese’s fast-paced New York, Mario Martone’s secret-filled Naples, Fatih Akin’s Istanbul depicted through sound and streetscapes, Agnès Varda’s restless Paris, and Wong Kar-wai’s romantic Hong Kong. Each city maintains a vivid profile and presence within these works.

The series opens on April 1st with *After Hours* (1985), Scorsese’s depiction of a chaotic night in New York. This is followed on April 9th by *Nostalgia* (2022), a story portraying Naples through memory, identity, and a sense of belonging. On April 15th and 22nd, the series screens the cult favorite *Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul* (2005), which decodes the Turkish city via its music, and *Cléo from 5 to 7* (1962), which vividly captures 1960s Paris in real-time. Finally, on April 29th, the series concludes with *Chungking Express* (1994), capturing the heat and fleeting moments of daily life in Hong Kong.

Each screening will be followed by a talk session moderated by journalist Mattia Carzaniga. Guests from the film and cultural sectors are expected, with the lineup to be announced in the coming days. To accommodate international visitors, all films will be shown in their original language with Italian subtitles.

This project embodies Armani / Silos' commitment to supporting younger generations and promoting culture and film. Additionally, Armani / Silos will support the free film festival "Il Cinema in Piazza," organized by Fondazione Piccolo America, for the fourth consecutive year. The festival is scheduled to take place in Rome in the summer of 2026.
