[Armani / Silos] Film Screening Series "Big City Life"

Armani / Silos and Fondazione Piccolo America will hold their third collaborative film screening series, "Big City Life," starting from April 1st.

This year's theme is the portrayal of cities in contemporary cinema, exploring how great cities have been depicted on screen.

Through five films selected by Fondazione Piccolo America, this series will explore the relationship between visuals and urban space, while also focusing on how the big city functions as another character with a complex and rich presence in the film's narrative. Through screenings and talks, the series will introduce audiences to how representative contemporary directors have captured cities from around the world as constantly changing, living entities.

The program traverses a variety of lands and imaginative landscapes.

The fast-paced New York captured by Martin Scorsese, the secretive Naples by Mario Martone, the Istanbul depicted through sound and streetscapes by Fatih Akin, the restless Paris captured by Agnès Varda, and the romantic Hong Kong filmed by Wong Kar-wai. Each city projects a vivid and distinct presence within the works.

The series kicks off on April 1st with a screening of "After Hours" (1985), a film by Scorsese that follows a surprising and frenetic night in New York. This is followed on April 9th by "Nostalgia" (2022), a story depicting Naples through memory, identity, and a sense of belonging. On April 15th and 22nd, the cult favorite "Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul" (2005), which deciphers the Turkish city through music, and "Cléo from 5 to 7" (1962), which vividly portrays 1960s Paris in real-time, will be screened. The series will conclude on April 29th with "Chungking Express" (1994), which captures the passion and ephemerality of daily life in Hong Kong.

Each screening will be followed by a talk session moderated by journalist Mattia Carzaniga. Guests from the film and cultural fields are expected, and the lineup will be announced in the coming days. To accommodate international visitors, all films will be shown in their original language with Italian subtitles.

This project embodies the commitment of Armani / Silos to continuously support the younger generation and promote culture and cinema. Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, Armani / Silos will support the free film festival "Il Cinema in Piazza," organized by Fondazione Piccolo America. The festival is scheduled to take place in Rome in the summer of 2026.
