[Armani / Silos] Film Screening Series "Big City Life"

Armani / Silos and Fondazione Piccolo America will host the third film screening series "Big City Life," a collaboration between the two, starting April 1st.

This year, the theme is the depiction of cities in contemporary cinema, exploring how metropolises have been portrayed on screen. Through five films selected by Fondazione Piccolo America, this series explores the relationship between moving images and urban spaces, focusing on how metropolises function as a multi-layered and rich "additional character" within cinematic narratives. Combining screenings with talks, we will introduce audiences to how leading contemporary directors have captured cities around the world as constantly changing, living entities.

The program traverses diverse lands and imaginative landscapes. The fast-paced New York projected by Martin Scorsese, the secretive Naples by Mario Martone, Istanbul depicted through sound and streets by Fatih Akin, the restless Paris captured by Agnès Varda, and the romantic Hong Kong shown by Wong Kar-wai. Each city asserts a vivid presence with distinct contours within the works.

Opening the series is "After Hours" (1985), screening on April 1st. It is a film that follows a night in New York full of surprises and frenzy, directed by Scorsese. Following on April 9th is "Nostalgia" (2022), a story that portrays Naples through memory, identity, and a sense of belonging. Furthermore, on April 15th and 22nd, the cult favorite "Crossing the Bridge – The Sound of Istanbul" (2005), which deciphers the Turkish city through music, and "Cléo from 5 to 7" (1962), which vividly captures 1960s Paris in real-time, will be screened. And on April 29th, the series concludes with "Chungking Express" (1994), which captures the heat and transience dwelling in the everyday life of Hong Kong.

After each screening, a talk session moderated by journalist Mattia Carzaniga will be held. Guests from the fields of film and culture are scheduled to be welcomed, and the lineup will be announced in the coming days. To ensure international visitors can also enjoy the event, all films will be screened in their original languages with Italian subtitles.

This initiative embodies Armani / Silos' commitment to continuously supporting younger generations and promoting culture and cinema. Additionally, for the fourth consecutive year, Armani / Silos will support "Il Cinema in Piazza," a free film festival organized by Fondazione Piccolo America. The festival is scheduled to be held in Rome in the summer of 2026.
