Konica Minolta Planetarium will screen its seasonal, photo-friendly welcome video, “Tanabata Welcome Dome,” at all five of its venues in Yurakucho, Ikebukuro, Oshiage, Yokohama, and Nagoya from Friday, June 5 to Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The video will be shown during the waiting time before the main planetarium program, inviting visitors to gaze at a sparkling Milky Way and reflect on the Tanabata festival. “Tanabata Welcome Dome” features summer constellations, Orihime, and Hikoboshi. Before the main program begins, the dome will be filled with a summer night sky inspired by Tanabata. Summer constellations, the Milky Way flowing overhead, and the stars Orihime (Vega) and Hikoboshi (Altair) shining on opposite sides of the celestial river will welcome visitors. Shooting stars will also appear as if carrying visitors’ wishes, inviting them to quietly make a wish when they spot one. Even during Japan’s rainy season, guests can enjoy a sky full of stars without worrying about the weather. In a cool and comfortable planetarium, visitors can spend a special moment taking photos of the seasonal starry sky while immersing themselves in the legend of Tanabata. The “Welcome Dome” is an interlude video shown as guests enter the dome. Visitors with tickets to eligible planetarium programs can enjoy the Tanabata-themed footage before the main show begins. The main planetarium program starts after the Welcome Dome ends. The video runs for about five to ten minutes between opening and the start of the program, so early entry is recommended. Photography is allowed, making it a seasonal memory visitors can capture on camera. “Tanabata Welcome Dome” will run from June 5 to July 7, 2026. Participating venues are Planetaria TOKYO in Yurakucho, Planetaria YOKOHAMA in Yokohama, Planetarium Manten in Ikebukuro, Planetarium Tenku in Oshiage, and Planetarium Manten NAGOYA in Nagoya. Admission is included in the ticket price for eligible programs. Some programs are not eligible, and visitors are advised to check the official website for eligible works and venue closing days. Recommended eligible programs include “Fiji Healing: The Southern Cross and the Island of Happiness,” available at Yurakucho, Ikebukuro, and Oshiage. Set in the Republic of Fiji in the South Pacific, the program lets visitors enjoy a luxurious star-filled experience with original aromas while encountering Fiji’s rich nature and culture. Narration is by Takuya Eguchi. At Yokohama and Nagoya, the recommended eligible program is “Starry Journey: World Edition Special Long Version.” Created by KAGAYA, known for highly acclaimed visual beauty, the work is presented as a remastered version for LED domes. It features live-action starry-sky footage filmed by KAGAYA around the world over three years, including the Southern Cross, the Milky Way, and stars reflected on the mirror-like surface of Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flats. Narration is by Hiroki Yasumoto.
