(April 14, 2026, 6:00 AM PST) Cloudflare, the leading connectivity cloud company that makes it easy for everyone to connect, today announced "Cloudflare Mesh" (hereinafter "Mesh"), a private networking solution built for the evolution of AI agents. By integrating AI agents, humans, and multi-cloud infrastructure into a single secure fabric, Mesh provides the network foundation for enterprises to build, deploy, and manage next-generation AI applications.

As organizations transition from experimental AI to practical-level agents, they face a critical barrier: security. For AI agents to perform their intended functions, deep access to private databases, internal APIs, and staging environments is essential. However, granting access using traditional VPNs or manually configured tunnels is slow and carries inherent risks. Currently, many teams are forced to choose between restricting the agent's access and thereby limiting its functionality, or bearing the risk of exposing private infrastructure to the public internet to make it work.

Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare, stated, "While AI agents have become standard in current development workflows, they are constrained by networking models designed for humans. For years, developers have had to choose between spending days struggling with complex, clunky VPNs, or taking the dangerous shortcut of exposing private infrastructure to the open web. Mesh eliminates that trade-off. Whether an agent is running on Cloudflare, in a private data center, or on another public cloud, it provides a secure bridge between the agent and infrastructure, ensuring that every agent a team releases is secure from day one."

Mesh brings a fundamental transformation to how organizations manage AI. It goes beyond mere connectivity to function as an identity foundation for agents. In a Mesh environment, every agent has a unique identity, just like every human employee. This enables security teams to set granular policies. For example, a coding agent or sandbox can be strictly restricted from accessing production financial records while being allowed to read staging databases.

By integrating Mesh with developer platforms such as Workers, Workers VPC, and the Agents SDK, Cloudflare provides the first end-to-end lifecycle for AI agents.

- Build private connections in minutes, not days
Mesh eliminates the complexity of cross-cloud networking, allowing developers to instantly unify laptops, office hardware, and multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP) into a single private fabric.

- Secure access to private services enabled by AI agents and infrastructure
Organizations will be able to build consistent networks completely isolated from the public internet. By routing private IPs through Cloudflare's massive global network, sensitive data is encrypted and completely shielded from external threats—from cloud infrastructure to distributed devices and AI tools.

- Providing a fully secure stack for AI agents
Mesh allows AI agents running on Cloudflare Workers to access entire private networks via Workers VPC bindings. Through simple code commands, developers can grant agents scoped access to private APIs and databases.
