Opening Ceremony Held to Commemorate the Grand Opening of "Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort"

[May 14, 2026] Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort (Miyakojima City, Okinawa Prefecture; Seiji Tanamachi, General Manager) held an opening ceremony yesterday, May 13 (Wednesday), to commemorate its grand opening on April 1, 2026 (Wednesday). The event was a grand affair, welcoming many distinguished guests including Miyakojima Mayor Mr. Noboru Kakazu and Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. Executive Vice President Mr. Satoshi Iwata, to celebrate the opening, and was adorned with performances that showcased the nature and culture of Miyakojima.

Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort is the second hotel in Japan for Hilton's lifestyle brand 'Canopy by Hilton' and the brand's first resort hotel in the Asia-Pacific region, which opened on April 1 (Wednesday). Located in the Turiba area of Miyakojima City, adjacent to Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort, the hotel is conveniently situated, approximately 15 minutes by car from Miyako Airport and 25 minutes from Shimojishima Airport, with excellent access to Miyakojima's city center and the Irabu Bridge.

The opening reception was held from 5:00 PM on May 13 (Wednesday) at the grill restaurant 'CHIIKII' on the first floor. Joseph Cael, Area Vice President, Head of Japan, Korea, and Micronesia at Hilton, took the stage and stated, 'We will deliver the unique charm of Canopy—locally inspired design, vibrant social spaces, and relaxing hospitality—to Miyakojima, one of Japan's most beautiful island destinations.'

Following this, congratulatory speeches were given by guest representatives Mayor Noboru Kakazu and Mitsubishi Estate Executive Vice President Satoshi Iwata. The reception began spectacularly with a toast led by Seiji Tanamachi, General Manager of Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort.

After the reception, the venue moved to the outdoor garden area on the first floor for an after-party. A live performance by the music unit 'MIUNI,' which expresses Miyakojima's folk songs and ancient chants in original arrangements, and creative Eisa and Kuicha (a traditional folk dance of Miyakojima) by the 'Miyakojima Creative Performing Arts Group' were performed, allowing not only the ceremony attendees but also guests visiting the hotel that day to experience the island's culture and vibrant rhythms. The finale featured a fireworks display that lit up the night sky, celebrating the opening of Canopy by Hilton Okinawa Miyakojima Resort and marking a moment filled with hope for its future development.

This ceremony was planned to embody the brand concept of Canopy by Hilton, which values the connection with local nature, culture, and people. It became an occasion symbolizing the brand's worldview of a 'neighborhood' that connects visiting guests with the local community through locally-rooted experiences.
