Shonan's Sea, Sauna, and Art Unite: Ryujoji no Yu × Sea Sauna Shack × Ryu Ambe Triple Collaboration

Shonan RESORT SPA Ryujoji no Yu (Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture), operated by Auckland Tourism Development Co., Ltd. (Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture; President Tetsuaki Matsunaga), will launch a collaborative project with Sea Sauna Shack, a private sauna facility in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, and Ryu Ambe, a fine artist based in Shonan/Chigasaki. This unique initiative combines Shonan's seaside culture, sauna, and art, featuring limited-edition collaborative merchandise and a silk screen printing event by Ryu Ambe.

Where Sauna Culture Meets Art

In recent years, saunas have gained attention not only as places for physical and mental wellness but also as community spaces where new values and cultures emerge. Bringing together Sea Sauna Shack, which promotes coastal sauna culture, artist Ryu Ambe based in Shonan, and Shonan RESORT SPA Ryujoji no Yu, this collaboration offers a unique experience that blends the openness of Shonan, the comfort of sauna, and the creativity of art.

Sea Sauna Shack

A private sauna with views of Tateyama Bay

Sea Sauna Shack is a fully reserved, private sauna facility located on the coast of Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture. Set in a scenic location overlooking Tateyama Bay (Kagamigaura) and Mount Fuji, each guest group is attended by a dedicated sauna concierge who guides them through löyly and aufguss rituals. Artist Ryu Ambe, active in Chigasaki and internationally

Ryu Ambe is an artist known for a unique blend of pop, cute, and cynical aesthetics, gaining attention both in Japan and abroad for his distinctive use of color and character-based expression. Since launching his full-scale artistic career in 2015, he has created works across diverse media, including murals, shop windows, driftwood, and beach stones, and has collaborated with fashion brands and music festivals. In 2025, he will celebrate his 10th anniversary with an exhibition titled "RyuAmbe 10" at the Chigasaki City Museum of Art. Based in Chigasaki, he has created numerous murals throughout the city and continues to produce energetic works such as the "TRIP DIARY ZINE" series, capturing the landscapes and atmospheres felt during his travels.

Shonan RESORT SPA Ryujoji no Yu in Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a day spa facility that aims to provide "a healing resort space accessible for everyday use." Opened in 1989 as the first facility in Japan to establish the "super sento" concept, it is the first Kanto location of the Ryujoji no Yu brand. The facility offers a wide range of amenities, including 12 types of baths and saunas, five kinds of stone therapy rooms, a restaurant, and relaxation services.

Following renovations in 2025 and 2026, the men's sauna now features a "14-Barrel Bazooka Löyly Sauna," which delivers automated löyly heat waves across the body using 14 fans. The women's sauna has also evolved, incorporating automated löyly and enhanced sensory experiences with heat and fragrance. Additionally, the facility introduced ultra-cold plunge pools below 10°C—first in the Shonan area—for both men and women, enabling authentic hot-and-cold alternating therapy and offering a premium resort experience within daily life. In the "Nifty Onsen Annual Ranking 2025," the facility ranked 6th nationwide and 2nd in Kanagawa Prefecture.
