VDC Strategy survey names Wind River the No. 1 leader in the OS market for edge computing

Wind River strengthens its long-established global leadership in embedded OS, RTOS, and commercial embedded Linux categories

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – June 24, 2026 – Wind River, a global leader in delivering software for the intelligent edge, today announced it has once again captured the top position in worldwide market share for RTOS, commercial Linux, and IoT and embedded operating systems, according to the latest VDC Strategy research report, "IoT & Embedded Operating Systems, Containers and Virtualization Solutions." The findings underscore the continued strong global market position of Wind River’s edge computing OS platforms, including VxWorks®, Wind River® HelixTM Virtualization Platform, and Wind River® Linux.

Wind River is also recognized as a key vendor in VDC's latest report, "Edge AI Development Solutions," ranking in the top three for edge AI development tools and related services.

RTOS Revenue: 31.9% share (vs. 19.8% for the No. 2 vendor)

Commercial Embedded Linux Revenue: 36.7% share (vs. 16.6% for the No. 2 vendor)

IoT and Embedded OS Revenue: 21.1% share (vs. 14.2% for the No. 2 vendor)
