A production press conference for musician Keiichiro Shibuya's 'Android Opera' Ukraine performance will be held in Daikan-yama on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

This work has been performed in various locations around the world, including Japan, Germany, Sharjah, Dubai, and Paris. Last year, it was performed at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and a performance is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Festival Hall in Osaka. Then, in October 2026, it is scheduled to be invited by the city of Lviv and the Lviv National Opera in Ukraine for a three-day performance.

Four years have passed since the invasion of Ukraine, and new wars and crises are constantly emerging around the world. In modern society, where information flows endlessly and then disappears, distant wars and pain are gradually being forgotten.

Amidst this, an offer to perform the Android Opera suddenly arrived for Keiichiro Shibuya from Lviv, Ukraine, a city under wartime conditions. Shibuya was deeply moved by the attitude of not stopping culture, but rather pushing it forward towards the future, and this project began to move towards realization.

At this press conference, Yuliia Khomchyn, Director of the Lviv City Office of Cultural Strategy, and Bohdan Shumylovych, Artistic Director, who are visiting Japan to observe the Osaka performance, will be welcomed from Ukraine. They will discuss Lviv City's cultural strategy as a candidate city for European Capital of Culture 2030 and the positioning of this performance. Additionally, Jiro Furuki from the EU-Japan Fest Japan Committee, who has connected European cities with Japanese artists and cultural institutions through the framework of European Capital of Culture, will speak.

Yumiko Udo, an announcer with experience staying in wartime Ukraine for two weeks, will host and participate in the talk session. With Udo's unique perspective, Keiichiro Shibuya, Lviv representatives, and EU-Japan Fest representatives will engage in a talk session discussing art, AI, religiosity, war, cultural recovery, and hope for the future.
