In conjunction with "Coin Laundry Day" on May 28th, the Japan Coin Laundry Association recommends regular washing of bedding using large washing and drying machines at coin laundries. ■ Removing various dirt hidden in futons cannot be handled by disinfectant sprays or sun-drying alone. It is said that about one-third of our lives are spent sleeping. Futons, which we spend such a long time with, actually absorb sweat, sebum, and dust little by little every day. It is said that a person sweats about one cup overnight, and even if a futon looks clean, sweat tends to accumulate inside. If left as is, it can cause odors, mites, and mold. That is why it is important to wash futons regularly. Also, some families occasionally sun-dry their futons, but while dust on the surface of the futon can be removed, sweat, sebum, and mites inside the futon cannot be removed. Recently, there are TV commercials that promote cleanliness by spraying commercially available disinfectant sprays, but for a fundamental solution, washing the entire futon + high-temperature drying is effective. Recently, the number of coin laundries equipped with large coin-operated washing and drying machines has increased. The Japan Coin Laundry Association recommends regular washing of bedding. ■ Mites hidden in futons do not die from sun-drying. The guideline is to dry for 30 minutes or more with a gas dryer. According to experts, many mites hidden in futons are "house dust mites" that feed on human dander and dead skin cells, and they proliferate in hot and humid environments (20-30 ℃, 60-80% humidity). Mites cause allergies, and since they die at temperatures of 50℃ or higher in the center, washing the entire futon + high-temperature drying at a dry cleaner or coin laundry is effective. Some stores offer special courses for futons, so please use those. ■ The number one reason for using coin laundries is "because futons and blankets can be washed." Last year, in a survey on coin laundries conducted by the Japan Coin Laundry Association, 61% of respondents cited "because futons and blankets can be washed" as the reason for using coin laundries. Washing futons is becoming common knowledge among coin laundry users, but if you have never used a coin laundry, please try washing your futons once. Also, households that have trouble drying laundry during the pollen season should definitely try coin laundry dryers.
