The two brands, launched by actual twin sisters, handle different materials and products.
However, at their core lies a shared desire: "to pass on Japanese culture and values to the next generation while making them relevant in our current lives."
"Hanao" expresses the aesthetic sensibilities inherited by the Japanese people, such as traditional materials like chirimen (crepe fabric) and kumiko patterns, as "Wa-modern" (Japanese-modern) interior decor.
On the other hand, "Moegi Days" proposes new value by transforming rice bags, which would normally be discarded after their use, into items like bags.
We aim not just to sell products, but to convey the stories embedded in Japan's traditions and materials to contemporary lifestyles and to people overseas.
With the inbound market expanding, we feel the increasing importance of delivering Japan's culture and traditions not only as "decorative items" or "usable goods," but also along with the underlying values, aesthetics, and narratives.
*Hanao Brand Story*
Chirimen Temari Lamp, Kumiko Pattern Coaster, Traditional Color Temari Flower Vase
I have always loved traditional Japanese objects and found them beautiful.
However, I feel they have become somewhat distant from our modern lives.
When we see Japanese patterns or traditional colors, we think "that's nice," but don't we have few opportunities to encounter them daily, only during special occasions like New Year's?
Yet, the Japanese colors and patterns that catch our eye can bring a sense of calm or a feeling of nostalgia.
Perhaps this is because the Japanese aesthetic sense, passed down through generations, still remains within us.
"Hanao" was born from the desire to make such traditional Japanese beauty more accessible.
While cherishing the meanings and wishes embedded in traditional Japanese patterns and colors, we incorporate new technologies like 3D printers to create unprecedented forms.
Not old versus new, but connecting the two.
We want to deliver the new value and charm born from this connection through original interior雑貨 (miscellaneous goods) such as flower vases and lamps.
We want to preserve tradition, of course, and we have that desire.
But even more than that, we want to bring tradition into everyday life.
We want to make it something that can be easily encountered in daily life.
With such aspirations, we continue our craftsmanship.
Japanese traditional culture is by no means something of the past.
By transforming it into forms that can be enjoyed in our current lives, it can become a more familiar presence.
"Hanao" aims to propose such new encounters with tradition.
*Moegi Days Brand Story*
Things that we can't quite bring ourselves to throw away, kept in the back of a shelf.
Don't you have at least one of these at home?
In my case, it was rice bags.
They seemed usable for something, and they were simple, with a craft paper look that I found cute.
Rice bags made of strong paper. But, once their purpose is served, they are usually just thrown away.
I had overlooked them for a long time, thinking, "What a waste."
When I had more time and wanted to do some crafting again.
The rice bags in the back of the shelf seemed to be calling me.
They lacked the perfect finish of new fabric.
They had a soft texture unique to paper that had been slightly used.
That's when I felt, "This is it," and "Moegi Days" began.
What we value is not "using it because it's eco-friendly," but "wanting it because it's cute."
Not an overly zealous approach to eco-friendliness, but a situation where by liking and using something, it naturally becomes a small act of eco-consciousness.
We want to deliver that comfortable feeling, so each item is handmade one by one.
Even the same rice bag has various expressions. Therefore, each product has a unique texture.
Rice bags are an important material that has supported Japan's rice farming culture.
What if we could transform them, even after their original purpose, into something we can carry every day?
For the moment when something that was supposed to be thrown away becomes someone's "favorite."
"Moegi Days" will continue to pursue such craftsmanship.
Connecting Japanese Culture to the Future, and to the World
At this "Inbound Goods EXPO" at Tokyo Big Sight, "Hanao" will exhibit its "Chirimen Lamps" as the centerpiece, along with traditional Japanese colored "Temari Flower Vases" and "Kumiko Pattern Coasters."
"Moegi Days" will primarily showcase its "Kome (My) Bag," made by upcycling rice bags, which is its flagship product.
We sincerely look forward to the opportunity to forge new connections with many companies through this exhibition.
Through this participation, we hope to expand our network with partners such as accommodation facilities, retail stores, and overseas sales businesses that resonate with our craftsmanship and philosophy, especially with an eye on the inbound market.
Connecting Japan's unique beauty and values to the present, enjoying them naturally in our daily lives, and passing them on to the next generation; delivering Japan's traditions and materials along with their embedded aesthetics and stories to people overseas – this is the shared vision of our two brands.
