Private Rental Villa in Kitakaruizawa: 'My Hutte (Hütte)'
Tooiyama Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo / CEO: Masamichi Tooiyama) will open the private rental villa 'My Hutte (Hütte)' in Kitakaruizawa, Gunma Prefecture, on June 26, 2026. 'My Hutte' is a stay facility designed for experiencing art and spacious, contemplative moments. The property is a renovated 1960s cabin located on a 1,300-square-meter site surrounded by the rich natural landscape at the foot of Mount Asama. 'Hütte' is a German word meaning 'mountain hut' or 'small cabin.' The concept aims to create a stay experience where nature, art, architecture, and furniture coexist gently, with the surrounding scenery fully integrated into the essence of 'My Hutte.' The official website will launch on June 16, 2026, and booking will be available via Airbnb.

About 'My Hutte' | A Rental Villa to Experience Artworks by Around 10 Artists
'My Hutte' is conceived not merely as a lodging facility, but as a space to live alongside art. The interior displays works by approximately 10 artists collected by the owner. It is not a gallery for viewing art, but a place where guests can coexist with the artworks, enjoying how their expressions change with morning light, twilight, and the shifting seasons.
What 'My Hutte' aims to offer is not special activities. It’s the time to brew coffee, read a book, or gather around the irori (sunken hearth). What we hope guests take home is 'the time spent gazing at the scenery.'
About the Building | Designed to Frame the Forest View
The property is a renovated red-roofed cabin originally built in the 1960s amidst the woods of Kitakaruizawa. The forest to the north of the building inspired the idea of operating a private rental here, as its beauty became the core concept.
Unlike typical homes that prioritize sunny southern exposure, 'My Hutte' finds value in the northern view. To allow guests to enjoy the forest scenery from the bathroom and sauna, interior lighting is intentionally subdued, enhancing the vividness of the trees and shifting light outside the windows. This experience resembles the quiet contemplation of a garden from a temple engawa (veranda). Additionally, deep eaves create diverse transitional spaces between indoors and outdoors, such as the irori area, deck, and post-sauna relaxation zone.
About the Interior | Romantic Details and Wishes Woven Throughout
The owner envisioned the wall color as 'the blue-green of a place reached after escaping daily life.' The blue-green walls, reminiscent of the sea in Venice, are paired with walls and ceilings evoking the cabin of a wooden boat. By layering fragments of various cultures and memories, the space transcends era and nationality. Inspired by the elegant curve of the armrest of a white sofa chosen early in the process, the record player stand was custom-designed, creating a harmonious dialogue between room, furniture, and art. Fulfilling the owner’s wish to 'live like a child’s dream,' an alcove allows guests to play guitar while sitting on a drying rack.
Message from Masamichi Tooiyama, CEO of Tooiyama Co., Ltd.
Since receiving the extraordinary architecture by Kazuo Shinohara, once owned by Shuntaro Tanikawa, in 2019, I’ve become utterly enchanted with Kitakaruizawa, now living a dual-base lifestyle. I initially thought I’d visit alone, calling it a life of solitude and inconvenience (YouTube channel 'New Species of Elder'), but in reality, guests come every week—and they seem to love it too.
Then one day, I fell in love at first sight with a 1960s cabin on a 1,300-square-meter plot with a beautiful forest to the north. After 1.5 years of renovation, 'My Hutte' was finally completed.
This hutte (a German word for mountain hut) is filled with my favorite art and the way I enjoy Kitakaruizawa—crafted with care.
I hope you’ll visit quietly, take your time, and enjoy your own personal moments here.
If we happen to meet on a walk in Kitakaruizawa, please don’t hesitate to say hello.
